What I realized recently about my learning process really surprised me. Everyone has a different way of learning, and some are more average, and some are unique. For me, it's unique, or maybe not. I don't know what goes on in every highschooler's mind. The way I learn is through invasive stress and fear of consequences.
This is likely due to my lazy personality. Normally I put off things until I will be reprimanded if I don't complete them, which can be irritating. Honestly, I really want to get everything done early, but I subconsciously value others things over school. This value system has been a ball-and-chain for me for most of my life, and it is challenge to fight. But this value system doesn't affect just my academic life, it affects my personal life as well. It takes the form of responsibility.
When I was younger, I would be given tasks to do and would never do them, as I would much prefer to do something far more entertaining. The most likely cause of this value system would have to be ADHD. If you're in my class, you'll likely see me tapping my foot or hand at any given moment.
This is not guaranteed, though. Sometimes I stop for a few minutes, but I usually resume after changing focus to something else. Either way, it's apparent. In the end, however, I cannot blame my lack of motivation solely on ADHD, my own habits play a part as well. Anyone else have similar issues?
