The ACT. The most feared test in every teenagers highschool career. The ACT consists of a large set of tedious questions that one must complete in a short period of time, and are generally mentally taxing and involve material learned throughout the 2 and-a-half years spent at a school. The test is not impossible, however, there are books and guides everywhere to teach a fretful student how to do well. The ACT ranks a student based on correct answers completed in a time constraint, but what kind of intelligence is the ACT encouraging?
The ACT score one would get basically determines where a student will go after high school, and colleges nationwide accept the score. So in reality, the ACT and colleges don't want intelligence, they want students that can take in, and spit back out, everything they learn. I like to call this 'Academic Regurgitation'. Some people with high IQs can have trouble doing this and subsequently get bad scores on their ACT, falsely labeling them as a bad student.
So far, there is no nationally accepted test that determines worth correctly. Academic Regurgitators go off to college and some other deserving students have a delayed start to the rest of their life. Comments?
