I did something interesting this weekend. Gambling. No, it was legal, and it was held and funded by MSU. How was it legal? Easy: it wasn't actual gambling. At the ice rink on campus, MSU put together an event where college students can come and gamble with fake money from 9 to midnight.
Each student is given 10,000 dollars to begin with and is allowed to bring one guest, which is why I was able to attend. Throughout the rink was poker, blackjack, slots, craps, among others, and there was free food strewn about the rink, all paid for by MSU with the money the got from housing costs( The entire event was free). What me and my brother (The college student) played the most was blackjack; I didn't really know the other games and Blackjack was easy to learn and play. The only other game I played was the slots, and the slot I picked was broken or something because I always got replays or 20+ coins every time.
But in the end, I don't know why MSU would hold something like a gambling event, that was the one thing that confused me:why? Maybe it was supposed to teach us something? The only thing I learned was how to play Blackjack, so why?
Either way, it was a wonderful learning experience, and I found out that college students are a lot more like high schoolers than I thought. Everyone was really nice while I was expecting them to be colder. Has anyone else learned anything from an event like this?
